law, poetry

Laws of Beauty

Plastic molded stiff armed beauty

Velcro dress and plastic shoes

I cut your hair one afternoon

Naive, deceived, it won’t grow back

You were made in the image of pretty

Smooth and polished synthetic smile

In the image of what I could be

Shiny glossy plastic teeth

Stiff armed beauty, straight up or down

Popped your right one out of socket

To wear my green felt hot glue jacket

But bend an elbow? It’s not your way.

Sculpted cheekbones chiseled lips

Who could ever be so foolish?

To kiss unflavored cherry paint

To wait on your impotent breath

How many years, imagined, after

Chewed up hands and thinned out scalp

Will you still be my rule of beauty?

Rigid plastic lifeless love
