Sang Me To Sleep

Yesterday was like the others

A cup of coffee over sentences

Nothing anyone couldn’t be for anybody

But your ordinary sound won’t leave my mind alone

Its midnight and the dark won’t pull me down to the deep

Angles gave up & left my soul to keep

Minutes still spinning and there’s no relief

Wonder what it feels like if you sang me to sleep

I had a dream there was a me

Who couldn’t stand up on the seashore

Sandy ice cream watch me melting

The tides of self-reliance washed away

And its midnight but the waves won’t push me under the deep

Angels gave up & left my soul to keep

Years keep crashing on a distant beach

Want to hear your heartbeat as you sang me to sleep

I woke up on a winter morning

Eyes wide open frosted naïveté

Hope is unkind to a cracked reality

But its been so long I thought it was warm

And so there’s not much more

To do

At midnight when the cold won’t let me fall into the deep

Angels gave up & left my soul to keep

Time moves forward,  one’s another’s relief

Would I ever get to rest if you had sang me to sleep
