A Game

Play with me

Make a move

My turn

Your turn

Remembering the rules

Drawing and discarding

The hand that we are dealt

Guarded and careful

Count your steps

Place that piece

I stop

You roll

Frustrating waiting

Shifting spaces

On the mass produced gameboard

Peeling and faded

Played by fate

Don’t you cheat

I quit

You sigh

Slipping away

Splintering veneer

Inside our shelf stable packages

Trapped and contained

Be a good sport

Play it again

Who lost

Who won

Spinning around

Throwing dice

But what if I don’t want to play games

anymore
